On 21 October 2025, the Sustainability Fair took place at Hochschule München for the first time. The event was organised by the student run Green Office and brought together a wide range of exhibitors, from university based groups to organisations such as Bund Naturschutz and Greenpeace.
Sustainability, however, encompasses far more than environmental protection and climate policy. It is often described as a model with three dimensions. Alongside ecology, economic stability and social justice play an equally important role. While ecological sustainability focuses on issues such as preserving biodiversity, economic sustainability includes the use of regional resources while ensuring fair working conditions. Social sustainability, in turn, centres on equal opportunities, intergenerational fairness and social cohesion. It becomes clear that these three dimensions are closely interconnected, overlap in content and depend on one another.
Gender aspects also play a role in all three dimensions of sustainability, whether in gender specific consumption patterns, in care work within an ageing society or in the phenomenon of genderwashing in companies. Gender is therefore an essential component of sustainable development and should always be considered in discussions about sustainability. It is no coincidence that gender equality appears as SDG 5 in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Gil & Toni highlighted exactly this relevance of gender aspects in sustainable development at the Sustainability Fair. With the energetic support of our student team, we engaged in conversations with visitors, asked how equality is addressed in their fields of study and what sustainable changes they would like to see. At our stand, we also handed out our colourful postcards and invited visitors to try our uniqueness station. In addition, everyone had the opportunity to anonymously submit questions about gender in our opinion box. We will now evaluate these questions so that we can respond even more precisely to your needs in the future.
Thank you very much for your interest. Gil & Toni will continue contributing their vibrant perspective to a gender sensitive approach to sustainability.
